Kate Carey (she/her) is multi-faceted like a diamond. She contains layers upon layers, all of which contribute to her capacity for reflecting more light into the world. Kate is a fat queer polyamorous slut who sometimes spends whole days in bed crying because feelings are hard. Writing has been an anchor, a way to explore things she wasn't supposed to talk about.
Producer of Slutty Poems Night, a sex positive poetry night that raises money for a local Harm reduction organization, Kate aims to build a small safe haven in a world that is increasingly scapegoating marginalized people to deflect from the harm white supremacy and capitalism wreak.
She is incredibly grateful and in awe of the Philly poetry & arts community which is full of vibrant, talented people. Events such as Noah David Roberts' Scribes on South, Yolanda Wisher's WAP Party and Chris Davis' You Can't Fail series as well as Damian Rucci and his NJ Poetry Renaissance inspire Kate to keep going.
Through deeply personal poetry and creative nonfiction, Kate touches on issues relating to trauma, fat liberation, mental illness and sexuality. A participant in A Room of Her Own's 2015 Women's Writing Retreat in New Mexico, and Hobart Bookvillage's annual Festival of Women Writers since 2016, she is strengthened by the connections forged there that continue to thrive today. She doesn't submit often but you can find words on her personal blog or in publications such as Eclipse Lit and En*gendered.
